I devised this recipe in 2017 when we were at a hockey tournament. I brought my Instant Pot with me to make the kids’ eggs. Do you know how expensive breakfast is for 20 hungry teens? So a few other hockey moms and I brought our Instant Pots, made some scrambled eggs and even some pancakes, and proudly served them to our kids.

This is so easy that you will wish you had thought of it more manageably. You do not even need to wait for the oven to preheat. You will be done way before the range is ready.

Pro Tips

Here are some pro tips for making perfect Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls in the Instant Pot:

  • Use the trivet: Before adding the cinnamon rolls, place the trivet or a metal rack at the bottom of the Instant Pot insert. This prevents them from sitting directly on the bottom, which can lead to uneven cooking or burning.
  • Add water: Pour water into the bottom of the Instant Pot to create steam during cooking. This helps ensure that the cinnamon rolls cook evenly and stay moist.
  • Wrap in foil: To prevent condensation from dripping onto the cinnamon rolls, cover them loosely with aluminum foil before placing them in the Instant Pot. This also helps retain moisture and prevents them from drying out.
  • Use the manual setting: Set the Instant Pot to manual (or pressure cook) mode and cook the cinnamon rolls for the recommended time. Avoid using the “Keep Warm” function after cooking, which can cause the rolls to overcook or become mushy.
  • Natural pressure release: Allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure for a few minutes before manually releasing any remaining pressure. This helps prevent the cinnamon rolls from collapsing or becoming dense.
  • Check for doneness: Use a toothpick or cake tester to check whether the cinnamon rolls are cooked. Insert it into the center of a roll—if it comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs, they’re ready.
  • Glaze after cooking: While the cinnamon rolls are still warm, drizzle them with the included icing or your preferred glaze. This adds sweetness and enhances the rolls’ flavor.
  • Serve immediately: Cinnamon rolls are best enjoyed fresh and warm. Serve them straight from the Instant Pot for the ultimate indulgence.
  • Experiment with toppings: For added texture and flavor, get creative with toppings like chopped nuts, raisins, or shredded coconut. Sprinkle them on top of the rolls before cooking for a delicious twist.
